Why does it randomly disconnect or play from the wrong device?
Usually it is multipoint pairing choosing between sources rather than a hardware fault. Multipoint keeps the headphones connected to a laptop and a phone at the same time, so a call can interrupt music without re-pairing. That is genuinely useful, and also the source of confusing behaviour: audio playing from the wrong device, a pause while the headphones decide which source to follow, or a laptop grabbing the connection back mid-song. It shows up most when several devices are paired with Bluetooth left on. The test is simple: switch Bluetooth off on every device except the one you want and see whether the problem persists. If it disappears, choose the active device in the Bose app or keep Bluetooth off on the devices you are not using.
The audio stutters when my phone is in my pocket. Why?
Bluetooth signals are easily absorbed by water, and the human body is mostly water. A phone in a back pocket puts your body between the transmitter and the headphones, which causes exactly the intermittent stuttering people blame on the headphones themselves. Moving the phone to a front pocket, a chest pocket or your hand usually resolves it.
Can I use them if the battery dies?
Yes. The included audio cable with in-line microphone turns them into wired headphones that work with a completely dead battery, which is the difference between a quiet flight and a silent one. It also connects to seat-back entertainment systems, older laptops and anything else without Bluetooth, and sidesteps every connectivity question above. It is handy for calls as well: with the cable plugged in, the in-line mic makes them a quiet, noise-cancelling headset. A protective case comes in the box too.
Do I need to adjust the EQ myself, or is the default tuning good enough?
The default is genuinely good: sound is clear and full without any adjustment, and plenty of people leave it exactly as it came. The EQ is worth using if the stock tuning is not quite right for your ears or your usual music: lift the treble for acoustic recordings, or pull the bass back for spoken-word content where it muddies voices. Small adjustments are often all it takes.
Will they get uncomfortably hot in warm weather?
The full seal around the ear that makes the passive isolation work also traps heat, and it is noticeable on a warm day in a way an on-ear design is not. This is the trade-off for the comfort and isolation that are its main strengths, not a fault. If you regularly wear headphones outdoors in heat, factor that in; for commuting, flights and indoor use it is rarely an issue.
Is Aware mode actually safe to use while crossing a road or on a platform?
It is designed for exactly that. Aware mode switches from active cancellation to full awareness, letting ambient sound through so you can hear a platform announcement or traffic, and it can feel much like having one ear cup off. The mode switch is a physical button on the left ear cup, easy to find by touch, so learn it on day one rather than fumbling for it when you actually need it.
