Does the LED display have its own built-in battery?
No. Divoom gives the display a front pocket for a power bank you supply, which plugs into the lights through a USB-A connection there. The draw is modest: a small, flat 5,000mAh bank lasts one owner multiple nights. Some power banks switch themselves off because the draw is too low, so if the display dies soon after you plug in, try a different bank.
How visible is the display?
Reasonably bright, but hard to see in sunlight or even in normal daylight unless you are close. It comes into its own in the evening and at night, when one owner relies on it for extra visibility on bike and motorcycle rides. An owner who works with a lot of LED lighting rates the diffuser and the separation between pixels among the best they have seen.
Is it actually waterproof, or just water-resistant?
Divoom calls it waterproof, and the bag is made of water-resistant nylon; the material and the sealed zippers are among its strongest points. Treat it as protection against rain and splashes rather than something you can submerge, especially with a power bank and electronics inside.
How much does it actually hold?
More than its size suggests. One owner fit a water bottle, two power banks, a scarf, sunglasses, sunscreen, candy, hand sanitizer, a map booklet and wipes. It is closer to a large waist pack than a full sling, though: a laptop or full-size iPad will not go in and an iPad mini is about the limit, even though Divoom rates it for devices up to 11 inches. Another owner finds it on the bulky side to wear on the front and prefers it on the back.
Does the companion app work well?
Mostly, with caveats. The huge community library and the tools for making their own art are the highlights, and for several people the app is what sold them on the bag. The complaints are practical: there is no PC version, some simple effects need the animator tool, fast animations cannot be slowed, and the animation cycle is forgotten at power-off until you resend a design. Functionality is the one area where buyer opinion is mixed, and these are the reasons.
Is there a warranty if something goes wrong?
Divoom lists no manufacturer warranty for this bag, so check the return window on your order and test the display with your power bank as soon as it arrives.
