Remove all packaging. Fill the kettle, boil, pour the water away and repeat once to clear any new-appliance taste. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth.
Place the round base on a level counter near an outlet, since the cord is on the short side, and away from the underside of cabinets so steam can escape.
Open the lid and fill with fresh cold water using the level window. The marks are in litres, so a litre is roughly four cups.
Set the kettle on the base, press the power button and choose one of the six temperatures using the guide on the kettle. Add keep-warm if you want the water held there. The light goes out when it reaches temperature.
