TL;DRThe Short Answer: Is the Nintendo Switch 2 System Worth It?

Almost everything owners wanted from a Switch sequel is here: a bigger, sharper screen, much faster performance and 4K on the TV. The questions left are the price, a battery that divides owners, and the handful of older Switch games that won't run or won't run perfectly. Nintendo's second hybrid console keeps the idea of one machine for the TV, the tabletop and your hands, and adds a 7.9-inch 1080p screen with HDR and up to 120 fps, a dock that outputs 4K on compatible TVs, magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers that double as a mouse, and GameChat, built in. Owners overwhelmingly call it the upgrade they were waiting for.

NoFussDeal rates the Nintendo Switch 2 System 4.8 out of 5 at $499.00. Last updated September 26, 2026.

How We Scored It

Based on

Owner rating

How we score
We score each thing that comes up most in owner feedback on the Nintendo Switch 2 System. Eight things come up most in owner feedback: six draw praise and two split opinion. Its ratings average 4.8 stars (90% five stars, 5% four, 2% three and 3% one or two), so every score starts at 96, that average on a 100 point scale. Where opinion is split, we take off 6. Where it draws mostly complaints, we take off 12. Then we read six owner reviews in full (every one we found gave it four or five stars) and move the score up to 5 points either way depending on how the owners who mention it rated the product. Our overall score starts from the same 4.8 star average and loses 0.1 for each thing that draws mostly complaints, with 0.1 more when at least a tenth of ratings are one star, never more than 0.3 in all. Nothing comes off here, so it stays at 4.8. Read our editorial standards

  2. Sign in with a Nintendo Account

Link a Nintendo Account to use the eShop, and add a Nintendo Switch Online membership if you want online play and GameChat.

  3. Connect the dock to your TV

Plug the dock into the TV with the included Ultra High Speed HDMI cable and into power with the AC adapter. Owners describe it as a one-cable job on the TV side.

  4. Attach the Joy-Con 2

Hold each Joy-Con 2 against the side of the console until the magnets snap it into place, or slide them into the Joy-Con 2 grip for TV play. Fit the straps if you will be swinging them.

  5. Add storage if you need it

The Verdict

4.8Out of 5
Editor's Choice

The Switch 2 is the upgrade most Switch owners hoped for. The 7.9-inch 1080p screen with HDR makes handheld play look sharp, games load and run noticeably faster, the dock outputs up to 4K, and GameChat puts voice chat and screen sharing on a button. It keeps the flexibility that made the original a family favorite. The costs are real: it is expensive, battery life depends heavily on the game, some older Switch games aren't fully compatible, and storage expansion needs newer microSD Express cards.

Who should buy it

  • Families who play together
  • Original Switch owners ready to upgrade
  • Nintendo fans who want Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza
  • Players who switch between the TV and handheld play

A clear step up in screen, speed and TV output, with the flexibility that made the Switch popular. Check the compatibility of your favorite older games and budget for a microSD Express card if you buy digitally.
