Before first use, remove the three plate sets and wash them, by hand or in the dishwasher. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth and never put the body in water.
Choose the sandwich, waffle or grill plates and seat them in the upper and lower halves until they sit flat and secure.
Close the lid and plug in. Both lights come on. Wait until the green light goes out, which means the plates are at temperature. Be patient here, because an under-heated press gives pale, sticky results.
Add your sandwich or batter. For waffles, about half a cup poured into the centre between the two wells works well. Do not overstuff the press, because the lid latch can break under too much food.
Close the lid; the green light comes back on while it cooks. There is no timer, so set one yourself; for waffles, three minutes with the lid kept shut is a good starting point. Adjust by feel for sandwiches.
Lift food out with plastic-coated tongs or a silicone spatula. The unit does not switch off automatically, so unplug it, let it cool, then remove the plates for washing.
