Oster Efficient Electric Can Opener

Difficult to set can on roller wheel at correct angle — integrated handle and blade are in the way. Once engaged, more often than not the spring-action cutter will not pierce the can. Just seems to skate along on top. Repeatedly lifting and pressing down the handle will most often get to finally pierce and start cutting, at which point you’re homefree. It will finish cutting the can (loudly and slowly) and the powerful magnet does lift the lid off when you raise the handle to remove the can. But… getting it started is a pain. Liked to tear up paper around the outside, which I *think* contributes to the problem. I notice some complaints online mention that stripping cans of their labels first seems to help. ——- I called customer service FIRST, thinking it unethical to whine online without trying to talk through it with them. But the product specialist at Oster assured me there is not a single complaint about this can opener (Seriously? I mean, I saw a dozen complaints at “poor value” ratings at their own site). I regret this purchase and will now have to go through the process of sending it to them, asking for remedy… or else just chalking it up to stupidity for not checking their sites for product complaints first. What a hassle. I’d have to say, “Looks pretty. Sounds powerful. Works when it works. But doesn’t work often. R&D on this product went to looks and not performance.

UPDATE: 2 months since I bought this garbage and it won’t work at all now. I absolutely would not recommend this lemon. Changed from 2 stars to 1. I would give it 0 if I could. So disappointed. Waste of money.Looks nice but does not work all of the time. I have to wrestle with it most of the time to grab and pierce the can and when I finally get it to grab, it won’t run or turn the can to cut the lid. I wouldn’t recommend this can opener.

Horrible purchase, the first few times I’ve used it, it was great. Now it will barely cut open the cans, it just scrapes off the paper. Back to the old hand winder.

El producto es muy útil y cumple con todo lo que la descripción menciona, se nota que está muy bien construido y el tamaño me encantó, no es nada estorboso. Tuve unos cuantos problemas al intentar usarlo por primera vez, pero realmente era que yo hacia algo más, tuve que leer las instrucciones cuidadosamente para notar mi error. Tal vez deberían pensar en otro tipo de redacción en las instrucciones pues creo que no queda claro a la primera. Fuera de eso todo perfecto.

This has to be the worst can opener I have ever purchased!!!!! DO NOT BUY IT! The motor is so weak it will go a few millimeters and quit so you have to basically crank it like a manual can opener. It is the worst! I should have returned it but I don’t use a can opener too terribly often and when I do I open several cans at once. It’s a hassle in the worst way.

This can opener worked for the first week. Now it won’t hold the can properly and when the blade punctures the can it then pops out and won’t go back in. If I still had the box I would return it.

Headline says it all. I’ve never had so much trouble getting a can opener to latch on to and open a can. And if it does get the can open, the lid is all hacked up and shards of metal will contaminate whatever it was you spent money on, hoping to use for preparing a meal. How many meals will get ruined because this opener put metal shavings into your last can of whatever ingredient you needed to finish preparing that meal? You end up wasting whatever money you spent on the other ingredients since you can’t finish making your meal with metal shaving infused ingredients. It’s not just me either, anyone who’s ever used a can opener says this one I should have never ordered is absolute garbage. I hear things like “what the hell is wrong with this thing” and “can you help me open this damn can” all the time. Maybe mine is defective somehow, who knows. I’m stuck with it now, unfortunately, and struggle to open a can every time. The retractable cord gets out of the way easy at least.
