How often will I need to replace the filter?
It depends heavily on what the filter faces. The D10 has a filter replacement reminder, and Tailulu says cleaning the washable pre-filter regularly takes load off the HEPA stage and prolongs its life. Under heavy use it can wear quickly: running constantly against cigarette smoke from a neighboring home, a filter can need replacing after about three months, and blowing the dust out with compressed air in between helps it last.
Is reliability actually a concern with this unit?
It is the D10's one real weak spot. The specific fault to watch for is a unit that gives off a constant high-pitched whine when switched off and has to be unplugged; it appears to affect some units rather than every one, and other units run trouble-free, some almost around the clock for about ten months. Test yours thoroughly, including switching it off, while you can still return it.
How quiet is sleep mode really?
Tailulu rates sleep mode at 15dB and switches off the indicator lights in that mode. In practice it runs quieter than a ceiling fan overnight, with a soft, white-noise kind of sound, and it stays fairly quiet even on high. Sleep mode is the one to use if you are a light sleeper.
Is the pre-filter actually washable, or just marketing language?
Yes. Tailulu says the pre-filter can be cleaned by vacuuming or washing, and it is designed to capture pet hair and visible debris ahead of the main HEPA stage. This extends the life of the more expensive HEPA filter by catching larger debris first.
Does it really help with pet allergies?
For most pet households, yes. A HEPA filter traps dander particles that stay airborne long after a cat or dog has left the room, and people with mild allergies to their cats and dogs tend to notice fewer symptoms within days to a week of running it. It works best in the room where you spend the most time, usually the bedroom. It will not remove dander already settled on carpets and furniture, so regular vacuuming still matters, and individual response will vary by person and allergen.
What does it filter, and how fine?
Tailulu says the 3-stage system filters 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pet dander, pet hair, smoke, cooking smells, dust and pollen. The pre-filter catches hair and larger debris, the H13 HEPA stage traps fine particles, and the activated carbon layer handles odors and VOCs.
